Aridity Index

Drylands are generally classified according to their climate using the Aridity Index. The Aridity Index is the ratio between precipitation to potential evapotranspiration (transpiration from plant and soil surface). Based on this index drylands are classified as hyper-arid, arid, semi-arid or dry sub-humid.
